The Bouncer (2019)

Directed By: Julien Leclercq

Starring: Jean-Claude Van Damme, Sveva Alviti, Kaaris, Kevin Janssens

Synopsis: Action movie legend Jean-Claude Van Damme (Bloodsport, Timecop, JCVD) is back in
one of his toughest roles yet…
In The Bouncer, Van Damme stars as Lukas, a tough nightclub bouncer struggling to raise
his 8-year-old daughter. One day, Lukas loses control during an altercation with a client
and ends up in jail, while his daughter is taken away from him. Things take an unexpected
turn when Interpol recruits Lukas to bring down a Dutch ringleader operating from Belgium
in exchange for his daughter’s custody.

Review: JCVD’s latest movie ‘The Bouncer’ delivers some tough, brutal & hard hitting fight scenes. Van Damme plays Lukas, a Bouncer by night and a struggling father by day, his main priority is raising his 8 year old daughter and making sure she gets a good life and education. Even if it means taking punches every night.

Van Damme gets rough with a clubber and subsequently ends up having to move to a another club. But to apply for the job you have to be the last man standing in a all out brawl. I loved this bit of the movie as this isn’t an average Van Damme movie , there is no fancy kicks, splits followed by a punch to the nuts etc and also Van Damme isn’t essentially the toughest guy in the room. Every punch landed we feel. The fight scenes are so raw and realistic. You always feel on edge and genuinely worry for Lukas’s safety.

The film has plenty of twists and turns and at a running time of 86mins, it keeps you hooked the whole way through. On the Van Damme scale I don’t think he has played a role as intense since Wake Of Death or Until Death. I would recommend to fans and non-fans as Van Damme delivers a great character in a dramatic, brutal and intense movie.
