Richard Wenk Talks Lethal Weapon 5 & His Career
Action Reloaded Presents: The Podcast has officially arrived, and we couldn’t have asked for a better guest to kick things off.
For Episode 1, we sit down with acclaimed screenwriter Richard Wenk for an in-depth conversation about his career, his journey through Hollywood and his work on some of the biggest action movies of the past two decades.
Wenk’s credits speak for themselves. From The Equalizer franchise to The Expendables 2, The Mechanic and The Magnificent Seven, he has helped bring some memorable action stories and characters to the big screen.
During our conversation, Richard takes us through his career, from his early days in the industry to becoming one of Hollywood’s most established action screenwriters. We discuss his approach to writing, some of the projects that have defined his career and the experiences he’s picked up along the way.
And, of course, we couldn’t have Richard Wenk on the podcast without talking about Lethal Weapon 5.
This was a particularly exciting part of the conversation for me, as I’ve had the opportunity to read the screenplay written by Richard Donner, Richard Wenk and Mel Gibson.
Without giving anything away from the script, we discuss Richard’s involvement with the project, working on the story with Donner and Gibson, and the prospect of seeing Riggs and Murtaugh return for another chapter in one of action cinema’s most iconic franchises.
For someone who grew up loving the Lethal Weapon movies, having read the screenplay and then getting the opportunity to sit down with one of its writers made this a pretty special conversation — and a fitting way to launch the podcast.
