Countdown (2025) Episode 112:“This is His Signature”– Review

Countdown continues to deliver killer pacing—literally and figuratively—and Episode 112 sets the tone right away. The cold open gives us a clean, brutal assassination of the governor’s press secretary, executed with eerie precision. It’s clinical, efficient, and instantly raises the stakes. This isn’t random—this is someone with a plan, someone who knows how to make a statement.
The task force jumps into action, but it’s clear this killer is steps ahead. They suspect inside knowledge, maybe even someone in law enforcement feeding intel. The fact that the assassin is always out before backup can even blink? That’s no coincidence. Officer Tooks enters the picture—a street-smart cop who’s dialed into something deeper going on. He doesn’t feel like your standard “cop with a tip” character—there’s nuance to him, and he seems to get the gravity of the situation.
He tips Finau off to an impounded car, and it turns out to be the vehicle of the murdered press secretary. Inside? A bone-chilling clue: a piece of paper marked with the killer’s signature symbol—his calling card. It’s subtle, but sinister. And it points them to a location that could be their next major lead.
Meanwhile, Evan’s storyline gets a quieter but necessary moment of grounding. Molly, his sister who’s been spinning out for a while now, finally admits she needs to get her life back on track. It’s a surprisingly tender beat, a breather in an otherwise tense episode, and it helps give emotional depth to a show that’s mostly adrenaline.
The climax at the bar is another showcase of Countdown’s ability to keep the audience off-balance. The team goes undercover, trying to ID their suspect. Meachum spots him—he’s taking photos, not of random people, but of them. He’s clocking the task force, trying to see who’s hunting him. It’s a slick moment that flips the power dynamic: the hunter knows he’s being hunted… and he likes it.
A brief shootout breaks out, but the suspect escapes, leaving only more questions and a whole lot more tension.
This episode nails its title—the killer’s signature is all over this one. And it’s clear he’s not just leaving breadcrumbs… he’s leaving traps.
