Review: It was great too see Donnie back on our screens after IP Man 4. This is a change of pace as Donnie opts for a more comedic action adventure, it reminded me very much of an old school Sammo Hung movie. Coincidence… I think not.
The movie goes for a very goofy slapstick comedic tone, which for what it is, Plays off very well and doesn’t become too much. Yen always puts on a good show and never fails when it comes too the fight scenes.
I enjoyed the film, the action and the comedy went well together, there was some romance added in which sort of came in like a tiadal wave and flooded some of the third act. It was quite corny and over the top. But forgivable.
The finale was fun and thrilling but it was nothing spectacular. The overuse of some CGI took away from it.
Overall its a fun movie and was fun too see Yen tackle something fun after the serious IP Man 4. Yen proved he had the chops for comedy and gave us a decent 97 minutes. Saying that, the movie would only be for die hard Yen fan. New comers too the world of Donnie Yen should not be expecting some of his most gritty and hard-core fight segments.
