Directed by: Antoine Fuqua
Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Danny Glover
Synopsis: Mark Wahlberg and director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Infinite) teamed up for the first time on the intense action thriller SHOOTER. Wahlberg stars as a respected former Marine sniper who is pressed into service to stop an assassination attempt on the President. When he’s double-crossed and framed for the attempt, he must prove his innocence while evading every law enforcement agency in the country and a shadowy organization that wants him dead.
Review: Shooter marks its 15th anniversary and to celebrate this, Paramount Pictures have delivered a 4K Steelbook!
Mark Whalberg stars in this throwback action-thriller as former marine sniper Bob Lee Swagger, a role you could see the likes of Stallone or Schwarzenegger headlining back in the 80’s.
Fuqua always delivers a solid action movie with fantastic set pieces and Shooter is no different. The movie is a ‘run of the mill’ action movie. A movie where you know who the bad guys is, what will happen next and the outcome but this is not a bad thing and director Fuqua doesn’t aim to try and make you think it’s more than it is, what he does do is uses that to make the action scenes more exciting and gives the audience them memorable moments.
Shooter was one of Mark Wahlberg’s first action movies and it still holds up as one of his best and surprisingly it is a movie that never got a sequel, it did get a TV Series which had Ryan Phillipe take on the role of Bob Lee. A sequel with Wahlberg and Fuqua would be more than welcome.
Overall, the 15th anniversary steelbook is worth the purchase, it’s a fun throwback movie that introduces us to Wahlberg the action star and stands as another great Fuqua movie.
