Review:
The Predator marks the return of the action-sci-fi franchise that started in 1987 with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role. It has been eight years since we last saw the Predator on the big screen and we had Robert Rodriguez at the helm with Adrian Brody leading the cast. I personally enjoyed the movie and the end was left open for a sequel which would have been cool to explore.
Shane Black who also starred in the original as the Predators first victim Hawkins, takes the directors chair and brings us one of the best entries to the franchise and sets up a whole new direction for the franchise. This time around our main hero is named Quinn McKenna (Boyd Holbrook) an Army Ranger Sniper who encounters the Predator and in the process his team are killed by it. Quinn manages to knock down the Predator with one of its owns weapons, he then takes the weapon and mails it to a private mailbox for evidence. When Quinn is de-briefed and deemed ‘insane’ he is shipped off with a group of other soldiers who nickname themselves ‘The Loonies’. The Predator gets captured and taken to a lab where Biologist Casey Bracket (Olivia Munn) is recruited by Sean Keyes (Jake Busey) to study the Predator. As movies go the Predator awakes and wants his missing gear, so after slaughtering the government agents he breaks free to get it.
Casey ends up teaming with the ‘Loonies’ and they figure out McKenna’s Son Rory (Jacob Tremblay) has it and is the Predators target. The group go to rescue Rory only to be confronted by another bigger Predator standing at 11 feet tall.
I loved the cast of this movie. I think they are the most likeable group since the first movie, they are definetly guys that you would want to watch your back in a sticky situation. Being a Shane Black movie it’s has some great action set pieces and a very funny script, it is very hard to go into detail without spoiling anything major. Overall Shane delivers a great movie with great action and awesome characters. It’s a pulse pounding action adventure with the Predator back and back at its most goriest and brutal best!!
If you haven’t already seen it then get to your local cinema and enjoy an action packed ride.
I would now love to see Quinn McKenna (Boyd Holbrook), Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and Royce (Adrian Brody) team up to take on Predators in an elite squad of Pred-Hunters.
