The Vanished (2020) Review

Directed By: Peter Facinelli
Starring: Thomas Jane, Anne Heche, Jason Patric & Peter Facinelli
Synopsis: A family vacation takes a terrifying turn when parents Paul and Wendy discover their young daughter has vanished without a trace. Stopping at nothing to find her, the search for the truth leads to a shocking revelation in this psychological thriller.
Review: The premise of this had me curious and the trailer had me sold. Anne Heche and Thomas Jane turn in some powerful performances here as a husband and wife who are taking a thanksgiving holiday with their daughter. In a blink of an eye, she’s gone.
From the moment the movie started you could see what a close knit family they are and it tears you apart when we see their daughter has vanished. I think because I’m a dad i put myself in their shoes, everyone was a suspect and i really couldn’t figure out who done it.
The movie was so tense and literally keeps you at the edge of your seat screaming at the TV! Jane and Heche put in such realistic performances, Heche was phenomenal.
Jason Patric plays the Sheriff helping to find their daughter. Patric puts in a really good performance and you really sympathise with his character. While the Sheriff puts his all into his job, his home life is slowly eroding. While it’s not a main focus in the story it does give you room to breathe as the main story is intense. I found it to be an intermission of sorts, but his story is also quite sad.
Peter Facinelli created a very smart psychological thriller that kept you hooked the whole way through. The movie is filled with heart pounding suspenseful moments. Some parts of the movie have you shedding sweat because it gets so tense. It has been a while since i have seen a thriller that really has you going through the motions.
Overall i loved The Vanished, it was a suspenseful thriller that immediately has you hooked to the screen. The who dunnit genre is always great and this is no exception. The Vanished is a clever edge-of-your-seat psychological thriller that will have you guessing until the very end. Which I’m sure will give you the chills. The acting comes across so true to life, the cast really did shine in their best light!
A solid recommendation from me!
