Countdown Episode 104 – Bite ‘Em Down, Tense and Thrilling TV!

Jensen Ackles led TV series review
Picking up right where the last episode left us emotionally wrecked, Countdown Episode 4 wastes no time getting right back into the thick of it. Jensen Ackles is firing on all cylinders here—his portrayal of sorrow, grief, and bubbling rage is visceral. He’s the kind of actor who doesn’t need words to convey what Meachum’s feeling… just a glance, a clenched jaw, and you’re locked in.
Still reeling from their loss, the team kicks into gear trying to hunt down Volchek, and it’s Meachum’s fractured memory that puts them on the scent. A brief flash of a name remembered from the basement of that grimy restaurant gives them their next lead: Mikhail Novikov. This guy isn’t your average mid-level thug—he’s cool, collected, and seriously hard to break. The interrogation scenes pack tension, and the team knows they’re playing catch-up. Volchek is always two steps ahead, and despite now being visible to the audience, he hasn’t lost an ounce of menace. If anything, his calm confidence makes him even more terrifying.
Keyonte Bell continues to rise as an unexpected scene-stealer. Elliot Knight brings both size and soul to the role. He’s got that quiet storm energy—commanding without even needing to raise his voice. Between him, Oliveras, Shepherd, and Finau, the squad is really starting to gel. There’s a growing camaraderie, and you actually care about each of them—these aren’t cardboard cutouts, these are real characters with personal stakes.
Humor still has a place amidst the chaos, and some of the dialogue this episode absolutely hits. “We haven’t seen a performance this bad since JarJar Binks in Star Wars”? That line had me howling. And the Prius takedown—”He was driving a Prius.” / “Are you sure?” / “Yeah, I wouldn’t make that up.”—pure gold. It’s this kind of levity that makes Countdown feel so lived-in and sharp.
And that final scene? Warm, heartfelt, and earned. The team may not be winning every battle, but they’re united. There’s a real sense of shared purpose, and that matters. It’s not just about taking Volchek down anymore—it’s about doing it together.
With the stakes climbing, the music thumping, and the writing sharper than ever, Bite ‘Em Down proves that Countdown isn’t just surviving episode to episode—it’s thriving. Keep ‘em coming!
