High Rollers (Cash Out 2) Review

High Rollers, or essentially Cash Out 2, is a fun, fast-paced thriller with an Ocean’s Eleven vibe, led by John Travolta, who still oozes charisma as the leader of a high-tech crew of thieves. Even in the B-movie market, Travolta elevates the material, making the budget feel bigger than it probably is—and I love it.
The film finds Travolta’s Mason and his crew trying to leave their criminal past behind, enjoying life on their own terms. But just when they think they’re out, they get pulled back in—this time in the form of an impossible casino heist. The stakes are personal, with Mason’s love, Decker, taken hostage, forcing them into a dangerous game where the odds are stacked against them.
One noticeable change is Gina Gershon stepping in as Decker, replacing Kristen Davis from the first film. There’s no explanation given, and Davis is still promoting Cash Out, so I’m assuming it’s a scheduling issue. Regardless, Gershon brings her own energy to the role, and the film doesn’t dwell on the change—just keeps moving forward.
The shift in tone from the first movie is a welcome change. Rather than rinse and repeat, director Randall Emmett ensures the sequel stands on its own, keeping the tension high and avoiding a formulaic approach. A brutal moment involving a cigar being shoved into someone’s eye reminds us just how ruthless the villains are, making sure the danger feels real.
Naming it High Rollers instead of Cash Out 2 was a smart move. It keeps the franchise feeling fresh instead of like another never-ending sequel train. That said, the way this one ends definitely leaves room for a third entry—maybe even pushing it in a Fast & Furious direction, which I wouldn’t be mad about.
It may not break box office records, but High Rollers is worth watching for Travolta alone. The man still has it, and seeing him pull off another slick, charismatic performance makes this heist movie all the more enjoyable. I’d gladly take another round with this crew.
