Review: I had avoided the first handful of reviews, but had caught some of the headlines and some critics were not giving the best of opinions . As I have said before fuck ’em! They are always looking for artsy fartsy films. If you’re a Sly Stallone or Rambo fan then this is a must see! A do not miss kind of movie. Heck even if your not a Sly or Rambo fan it’s a great movie in general… In plain… Just go and see it.
I wasn’t entirely sure how the movies opening and middle were going to play out, but I knew the finale was going to be explosive. The trailers gave us a taste of what fury Rambo was going to unleash. When we last saw Rambo he had finally arrived home. picking up 11 years later Rambo is keeping the family ranch in check and taming horses. Rambo is constantly haunted with flashbacks of his time at war and taking pills to deal with the PTSD. While Rambo may not be at war he still crafting weaponry in the form of ‘letter openers’ that are made out of Damascus steel and quite frankly look like they could still skin a cow. Rambo hasn’t fully adjusted to normality in life, he spends most of his time down in tunnels he has dug under ground, its like his safe zone, his sanctuary. Also in his time home Rambo has become a father figure to Gabrielle (Yvette Monreal) whom he is very protective over and has sworn that while he is still breathing she will always be safe. Clearly we know everything is going to go south.
From the moment the movie opened with the iconic Rambo theme a smiled beamed across my face, after 2008 I was quite sure I wouldn’t be hearing that theme tune in the cinema again. I felt so happy sitting down to watch a Rambo movie in the cinema again. I wasn’t worried at all when Sly announced another entry in the franchise as I know he loves the character and would it justice. I am happy to announce Sly has brought Rambo back to the screens and he is still the ultimate killing machine!! He is older and maybe not as quick as he was but he can still wipe out hordes of bad guys as easy as one would blow their nose.
The finale of Rambo is great and I think we see some of the most gruesome bad guy dispatches in the franchise yet, some bits had the audience wincing away. I don’t think Rambo has actually been this pissed off and carried out this much carnage, every kill is fueled by 100% rage!! I found myself laughing and cheering at some of the death scenes as all the goons deserved what they got. Some of the finale was reminiscent of First Blood, the traps Rambo sets and moments of him moving around in the darkness where we see his sillouete. Fuck Chuck Norris, the boogeyman checks his cupboard and under his bed for Rambo. Apart from the finale we are treated to a couple of other scenes of Rambo brutally, quickly and stealthily eliminating anyone from the cartel that gets in his way.
Overall I loved the movie, I cannot wait for the Blu Ray release and I will back at the cinema again to watch Last Blood. Stallone has again proven age is just a number and carries this movie with ease!! With Rambo back and firmly still the killing machine I remember I am more than happy. Last Blood is a brutally beautiful masterpiece!! Vengeance has a name and his name is John Rambo!!
