Jerry Trimble Interview: Bruce Lee, Jet Li, Heat & Hollywood

From world champion kickboxer to Hollywood action star, Jerry “Golden Boy” Trimble has enjoyed a remarkable career. Known for his lightning-fast kicks and memorable appearances throughout the golden age of martial arts cinema, Trimble has worked alongside some of the biggest names in the business.
For Episode 5 of Action Reloaded Presents: The Podcast, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Jerry for an incredibly open conversation about martial arts, movies, personal struggles and his passion for helping others.
How Bruce Lee Changed Everything
One of the most fascinating parts of our conversation was hearing how Bruce Lee inspired Jerry to completely change the direction of his life. Growing up, Jerry experienced bullying and struggled with his confidence. Everything changed when he watched The Chinese Connection.
Seeing Bruce Lee stand up against his opponents gave Jerry the inspiration to pursue martial arts. What began as a way of defending himself eventually developed into an extraordinary kickboxing career.
We also discussed the origins of his famous “Golden Boy” nickname and the techniques behind his incredible kicking speed, including the dedication and thousands of repetitions required to perfect his trademark kicks.
From Kickboxing Champion to Hollywood
Jerry’s transition into Hollywood brought him face-to-face with some genuine martial arts legends. He recalls landing roles in The Master alongside Jet Li and Breathing Fire with Bolo Yeung, sharing stories about the challenges of his first productions and the lessons he learned from experienced stunt teams.
Our conversation also takes us back to the VHS action era, when martial artists such as Don Wilson, Cynthia Rothrock and Jeff Speakman were making their mark on the genre. Jerry reflects on his own starring roles, working on Roger Norman productions and developing his acting skills alongside his martial arts abilities.
Working with Hollywood’s Biggest Names
Beyond martial arts cinema, Jerry has built an impressive career in mainstream Hollywood productions.
He shares a brilliant story about securing his role in Michael Mann’s Heat, including meeting the director and working alongside Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. We also discuss his experiences with Tom Cruise on Mission: Impossible III, working with director Jesse V. Johnson on The Package, and appearing in television productions including Supernatural.
There are some fantastic behind-the-scenes stories throughout this conversation, particularly Jerry’s memories of working with performers he had admired for years.
Life Beyond the Movies
What makes this interview particularly special is Jerry’s willingness to discuss the more difficult moments of his life.
He speaks openly about overcoming adversity, learning from mistakes and finding a new purpose through motivational speaking. Today, Jerry works to inspire young people, encouraging them to face their fears, develop confidence and recognise their own potential.
It’s a side of his life that deserves just as much recognition as his achievements in the ring and on screen.
From Bruce Lee and Jet Li to Hollywood and personal growth, this is a conversation that goes well beyond action cinema.
