Synopsis: In The Beekeeper, one man’s brutal campaign for vengeance takes on national stakes after he is revealed to be a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organization known as “Beekeepers”.

Jason Statham and David Ayer bring a top tier action thriller to the table in The Beekeeper!

Statham stars as Andy Clay, a loner who lives in on the land of Eloise Parker, a lady who took Andy in and has given him a stable life and a chance when nobody would. When a phishing scam takes all of her money she takes her own life. This sends Andy down a path of revenge where no force will be able to stop him. Statham does what he does best, he kicks everyone’s ass and takes no prisoners. There are loads of memorable action segments and the trailer highlights some of these, the scene where he blows up the phishing scam building and the beatdown of the FBI tactical team. These are only two of many memorable moments.

Emmy Raver-Lampman stars as FBI Agent Parker, the daughter of Eloise, she wants to get those responsible for her mothers death but being a woman of the law she wants to do everything by the book. While she is hot on the trail of Clay and manages to dig deep into him and his past, finding out that a Beekeeper is essentially a one man army that is sent in as the last resort. A Beekeeper will do whatever it takes to get the mission done, even if it means dying themselves. Statham channels his inner Agent 47 and John Wick which ultimately delivers on every aspect.

On villain duties is Josh Hutcherson who plays the cruel conniving Derek Danforth, a spoiled brat of a child who scams people out of all their money. He talks a big game and acts like he is the ‘Bee’s Knees’ but when it comes down to the wire he will ultimately hide behind the tailcoats of ex CIA director, Wallace Westwyld played by screen legend, Jeremy Irons.

Ayer always delivers a solid movie and this is no exception. The pace of the movie moves very quick and we are not seated around too long waiting for something to happen, Ayer brings, Balls, Wall and Action and throws them straight at ya. Ayer brings some of his notable traits to the movie such as the movie is completely character-driven, which features a strong emphasis on the complexities and flaws of our lead character, Andy Clay. Ayer also delves into the psychology of the characters, creating narratives that revolve around their personal struggles and conflicts. Ayer’s unique storytelling style shines through, resulting in a powerful, character-driven movie.

The action sequences are the main attraction of this movie, there are plenty of explosions and fight scenes that create enough adrenaline to keep Chev Chelios alive for years! The stunt team behind the movie have created some amazing pieces for audiences to get excited about and make memorable, these guys don’t get enough credit! Movies like this wouldn’t exist without our fearless stunt guys!

Ayer’s action movies are known for their rapid editing, creating a kinetic energy that propels the narrative forward. Quick cuts and seamless transitions contribute to the intensity of the scenes and this is no different, Ayer brings his tools and crafts an exciting narrative using the tools that have been at his disposal from day one.The framing in Ayer’s action sequences is dynamic, with a mix of close-ups, medium shots, and wide shots. This builds tension and highlights the characters’ expressions, and provides a comprehensive view of the action.

The Beekeeper is the movie that Statham’s, Expendables 4 should have been, a wild exciting, revenge thriller and not come across as a made for afternoon TV movie. The Beekeeper delivers on every aspect of the revenge thriller but it is in the competent hands of David Ayer and Although Kurt Wimmer’s name is attached to Expendables 4 as a writer and this, rest assured this one isn’t as poor! Good job, Kurt! 2024 has started well for you!

Statham and Ayer deliver a very solid action/thriller to kick off 2024! The Beekeeper is Jason Statham’s best movie yet! It’s a high octane explosive rollercoaster of a ride, BRING ON THE SEQUEL!

Rating: 5 out of 5.
