Review: Michael Jai White returns to our screens as Jesse Freeman in Welcome To Sudden Death!
Welcome To Sudden Death is a reimagining of the Van Damme movie Sudden Death. Michael Jai White plays our hero Jesse Freeman who is an ex special forces soldier.
In the opening minutes Jesse escapes torture with some wit and slick martial moves. This introduction of the character gave us a look behind the curtain at Jesse and his skill set, It was a fun action piece to get the movie rolling.
The movie is a fun action comedy, a memorable moment is when Jesse’s buddy and sidekick Gus points out the situation is like the movie Die Hard.
Jai White is on top form and in incredible shape, he gets to kick plenty of ass. I never get bored of watching Michael Jai White fight, the way he moves and his ability in the martial arts is phenomenal. Once the clock starts ticking it doesn’t let up until the explosive finale!
The movie had some highlight moments, one being a fast paced fight which had Jesse go head to head with a female villain [his real life wife Gillian White.]
A second highlight would be a 3 on 1 fight where Jesse is pitted against some goons, one is played by Mareese Crump who is very talented and gets too show us his skill set. This fight was memorable because there wasn’t anything flashy or fancy kicks. Jesse used loads of martial arts blocks and counters which you don’t really see in movies, it was refreshing to see.
Overall I loved seeing Michael Jai White back on screen kicking ass. It was clear while watching Welcome To Sudden Death director, Dallas Jackson loved watching classic action movies and his love for the genre shined through.
It’s a thumbs up from me.
