When Action Stars Bring Horror to The Genre
With loads of action stars taking a dip in the Horror/Sci-Fi genre I thought it was time we fished some of these gems out!! To kick start this we have….
Battle of the Damned (2013)
Following a deadly viral outbreak, private military soldier Max Gatling (Dolph Lundgren) leads a handful of survivors and a ragtag band of robots against an army of the infected.
Against the Dark (2009)
When most of the population of Earth is infected with a virus and transformed into flesh eaters and blood drinking creatures, a group of hunters led by Tao (Steven Seagal) chase the vampire zombies to eliminate them. Six non-infected survivors try to find the exit of an abandoned hospital crowded with the infected creatures, and Tao and his group help them. Meanwhile, the military command is ready to bomb the area and wipe it from the map.
Attack Force (2006)
Marshall Lawson (Steven Seagal) loses his strike-team in a cold-blooded and seemingly random attack. After this he takes it upon himself to investigate the suspicious circumstances of the brutal killings. Soon he uncovers CTX Majestic, a covert military operation so secret, that now the military wants Marshall eliminated. Resolute in his pursuit, Marshall engages in a merciless battle with a drug dealer operation that appears to be secretly funded by a rogue arm of the military.
The Minion (1998)
New York, Christmas Eve, 1999 – at the dawn of the new millennium – a subway construction crew unearths an eight hundred year old Celtic skeleton and a mysterious key. Archeologist Karen Goodleaf is called in to determine the meaning of the discovery. News of the discovery reaches a Middle East monastery where the warrior monks knowns as the Knights Templer – an ancient sect entrusted with protecting holy relics – choose their best pupil, Lukas (Dolph Lundgren) to face the diabolical threat. As Lukas races to New York, an evil Minion seizes Karen and uses its body like a parasite and host. Lukas arrives just in time to rescue Karen and despatch the Minion. The Minion takes hold of another host – revealing that it is immortal. As it cuts a path of destruction through the city, decimating a parking garage and leaving a trail of death, Karen realizes that the Minion can’t be killed – but only delayed from finding a new host.
Hellbound (1994)
Shatter (Chuck Norris) & Jackson, 2 Chicago police officers, are investigating the brutal murder of a rabbi and are summoned to Israel for questioning. While they are in Israel they continue their investigation there on some leads they have. After a while they begin to understand that they are trying to catch a supernatural being, and if they don’t do it fast something terrible will happen.
Blade (1998)
When Blade’s mother was bitten by a vampire during pregnancy, she did not know that she gave her son a special gift while dying: All the good vampire attributes in combination with the best human skills. Blade (Wesley Snipes) grew up to be a vampire hunter for revenge on his mother’s death. The vampires, who managed to infiltrate nearly every major organization, need Blade’s very special blood to summon La Magra, the blood god, in order to reign over the human cattle, as they call us.
Blade II (2002)
After the events with Deacon Frost, Blade (Wesley Snipes) continues to destroy as many vampires as he can. A new breed of super-vampire has appeared, which becomes an even greater threat than any evil currently out there. A group of high powered vampires, led by Nyssa and Asad request help from Blade in order to take down Nomak. Can Blade work alongside the very things he vowed to destroy?
Blade: Trinity (2004)
Blade (Wesley Snipes) is back on his quest to rid the world of vampires. When the original vampire, Danica Talos returns, Blake is going to find his job a lot harder. Especially, when the public believe Blade is the real villain. He teams up with the daughter of Whistler, Abigail and a former vampire, Hannibal King to attempt a plan, which could destroy every vampire in existence.
The Recall (2017)
A man and a woman forge an alliance with a mysterious hunter (Wesley Snipes) when aliens abduct their friends at a remote lakefront cabin.
Beyond Skyline (2018)
Tough as nails Detective Mark Corley (Frank Grillo) storms his way onto an alien spaceship to rescue his estranged son. When the ship crashes in Southeast Asia, he forges an alliance with a band of survivors led by sua (Iko Uwais) to take back the planet once and for all.
End Of Days (1999)
On December 28th, 1999, the citizens of New York City are getting ready for the turn of the millennium. However, the Devil decides to crash the party by coming to the city, inhabiting a man’s body, and searching for his chosen bride, a 20-year-old woman named Christine York. If he bears her child between 11:00 PM and midnight on New Year’s Eve, the world will end, and the only hope lies within an atheist ex-cop named Jericho Cane, (Arnold Schwarzenegger) who no longer believes in God because of the murder of his wife and daughter.
D-Tox (2002)
FBI agent Jake Malloy (Sylvester Stallone) can’t nail a serial killer who’s been targeting cops. The killer has already killed nine cops. Not only does the killer despise policemen, but he also has a grudge against Malloy for pursuing him during a string of prostitute murders four years ago. The killer finally decides to hit Malloy where it hurts, killing one of Malloy’s friends on the force, and brutally killing Malloy’s fiancé Mary. The grief sends Malloy off the deep end and causes him to become alcoholic, forcing Malloy’s colleague, Detective Hendricks, to sign Malloy up at a remote detox clinic in a snow-covered part of Wyoming. The clinic specializes in rehabilitating alcoholic cops. But the killer murders another patient and assumes the patient’s identity at the clinic. While Malloy participates in group therapy sessions, the killer starts killing the patients.
The Thing (1982)
In the midst of the Antartican snowfield, the scientists and workers of a small American research base are shocked when a helicopter begins to circle their camp, chasing and shooting at a dog. When the helicopter is destroyed and the passengers are killed, the dog is let into the base and the Americans begin to wonder what has actually happened. The helicopter has Norwegian markings, must be from the Norwegian base not too far from their own. A team of Americans are sent to the Norwegian base and find out what has happened. On arrival, they find that the place has been totally destroyed. They also discover a mangled body that looks as though it was once that of a person, which they bring back with them for further study. It is only then that the clues begin to add up; the dog morphs horribly into a strange creature that attacks the researchers. They manage to fight it off, but they come to a terrible conclusion: an alien with the power to transform and take the appearance of anybody else is amongst them. Who is infected already, and who can be trusted? Helicopter pilot R.J. MacReady (Kurt Russell) sets out to find the answers to exactly that.
Planet Terror (2007)
Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
In Texas, the gang leaded by the black market dealer Abby faces a group of renegade militaries leaded by Captain Muldoon (Bruce Willis) in an abandoned military base. During their shootout, Abby shoots a recipient of biological weapon, releasing an experimental highly-contagious gas that turns humans to flesh-eating zombies. Meanwhile, in the local hospital, Dr. Block (Josh Brolin) an epidemic with many patients with the same nasty symptoms. When the outbreak affects most of the local population, a group of people with immunity leaded by the mechanic Wray, Sheriff Hague (Michael Biehn), the stripper Cherry and the Dr. Dakota, fight to survive and become the last hope to save the world.
Don’t Kill It (2016)
In Chicory Creek, a demon is unleashed and commits three triple murders. The demon hunter Jebediah Woodley (Dolph Lundgren) and the FBI Agent Evelyn Pierce arrive in town to investigate the cases and after an initial friction, they team up to catch the demon. But the problem is, if the demon is killed, he immediately possesses the killer and continues the crime spree.
Gallowwalkers (2012)
A mysterious gunman, Aman, (Wesley Snipes) is the son of a nun who breaks her covenant with God to ensure his survival. This act brings a curse upon Aman – all those that die by his gun will return. Soon, he is hunted by a gang of his undead former victims, led by the vicious Kansa. Aman enlists Fabulos, a new young warrior, to fight by his side.
Pitch Black (2000)
Set in the distant future, a spaceship carrying some 40 people, mostly ones wanting to settle on other planets from their own, hits a meteor shower and crash lands on a distant planet killing all but twelve of them. The survivors, led by the second-in-command Carolyn Fry (‘Rahda Mitchell’ ), find themselves on a hot and arid landscape with constant sunlight from three orbiting suns. Fry not only must help the survivors find food and water, but contend with a deadly criminal, named Riddick (Vin Diesel), who was being transported to a prison cell on their destination. But every 22 years, the planet’s three suns go into a total eclipse for a month where darkness brings out the planet’s real inhabitants; large, reptilian, vampire-like creatures that come out and dominate the surface in total darkness, killing and eating all life. Then Fry and her people then must cooperate with Riddick, who has surgically enhanced eyes to see in darkness, to lead them to safety and off the planet before they all become dinner for the creatures.
Daylight’s End (2016)
Years after a mysterious plague has devastated the planet and turned most of humanity into blood-hungry creatures, a rogue drifter named Rourke (Johnny Strong) on a vengeful hunt stumbles across a band of survivors in an abandoned police station and reluctantly agrees to try to help them defend themselves and escape to the sanctuary they so desperately need.
Riddick (2013)
Left for dead on a sun-scorched planet, fugitive Riddick (Vin Diesel) fights for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he has yet encountered. His only hope for escape is to activate an emergency beacon, but that brings with it a different problem: mercenaries. The first ship carries an especially violent and lethal group; the second is led by a man from Riddick’s past. With time running out, Riddick realizes that neither group will leave without his head as trophy
Navy Seals vs. Zombies (2015)
A team of highly skilled Navy SEALS find themselves embarking on the battle of their lives when they come face-to-face with the undead. After a deadly outbreak occurs in Baton Rouge, the SEALS must fight for their lives, and the city, against an army of zombies. Michael Dudikoff plays Commander Sheer.
Maggie (2015)
A teenage girl in the Midwest becomes infected by an outbreak of a disease that slowly turns the infected into cannibalistic zombies. During her transformation, her loving father Wade (Arnold Schwarzenegger) stays by her side.
Shark Lake (2015)

Dead Trigger (2017)
Terminal City, 2025: A mysterious virus has killed billions and turned many others into bloodthirsty zombies. Unable to stop the virus, the government develops a video game, “Dead Trigger,” that mirrors the terrifying events that curse the world. The players who kill the most zombies in the game are recruited to combat the zombie horde in real life.
Led by Captain Kyle Walker (Dolph Lundgren), the elite team travels to Terminal City, the origin of the outbreak, to find a team of scientists who have been working on a possible cure for the virus. The only way to get to them, however, is through a city full of terrifying undead mutants…
Legendary (2013)
Travis (Scott Adkins) and his team travel to China in search of what isn’t supposed to exist … their mission to capture a Cryptid which is wreaking havoc in a remote village and they need to do this before it is killed by Harker (Dolph Lundgren), the legendary bounty hunter.
