Synopsis: Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) is a fearless black market mercenary with nothing left to lose when his skills are solicited to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord. But in the murky underworld of weapons dealers and drug traffickers, an already deadly mission approaches the impossible, forever altering the lives of Rake and the boy.

Review: From reading the synopsis and seeing some behind the scenes stills, I knew this movie was for me. Chris Hemsworth caught my attention in 12 Strong. Sure, he plays Thor. But that didn’t support the genuine fit for action hero status. But Extraction, well it cements him in the mould well and truly.

Hemsworth plays the awesomely named Tyler Rake, a mercenary for hire. Tyler is 100% badass, he would give Rambo and John Wick a run for their money. Fans who loved the likes of Rambo or Commando growing up will love this and fans of John Wick will clearly be on board aswell.

Sam Hargrave takes the reins and makes his directional debut. With Sam’s background in the industry there wasn’t a doubt in my mind we would get a top notch non-stop thrill ride with added adrenaline and testosterone thrown in for good measure. Every action sequence is choreographed and shot so well, the highlight being a 12 minute one take action set piece. Hemsworth truly shows he is worthy to be wield the status ‘Action Hero’.

As I said the action is well choreographed and there are some gripping and exhilarating moments throughout the movie. Fans of the hard R rating will be happy that the violence in the movie is brutal, with hand to hand combat, knife fights and gun fights all played out too there best.

Overall Sam Hargrave’s directional debut is truly awesome. I can’t wait to see where his career goes from here. Chris Hemsworth brings Tyler Rake to life in a spectacular badass memorable way. The movie is amazing. I would instantly watch it again. I have heard rumours of a sequel or prequel in the works, as the world of Tyler Rake is much bigger than the Red Dead Redemption 2 map!! This is a must see movie. For me so far. Its the action movie of the year!
