Kill Craft – Michael Pare is on point as always

Michael Pare is back on our screens in this low-budget action thriller

Pare is known to star in B-Action movies and let’s face it, B-movies are some of the greatest. So let’s deep dive into Kill Craft

Kill Craft is a low-budget indie movie, these movies are not funded by big companies such as Lionsgate or Warner and they’re usually funded or sourced through means such as Kickstarter campaigns or even out of someone’s pocket.

Without further ado…

Michael Pare opens the movie looking down the lens of his trusty sniper rifle before opening fire on his intended target and taking out his goons. We get a look at some of the practical blood effects which look like old school 70’s/grindhouse reminiscent. Pare also uses someone as a human shield and uses their bullet wounds to prize open a hole to shoot his gun from. Very memorable opening.

The movie then takes us to Pare who plays Thomas Delon, a hitman who when not killing has a daughter who he completely dotes over and a wheelchair bound wife who is demanding, quite hostile and an absolute cow to him but we get a back story on her later and how she ended up in the chair, so the hostility towards Delon is eventually explained. She is also very snappy and abrupt with her daughter Merina, something Merina nips in the bud later.

Delon’s daughter Merina is a straight A student, while her best friend Freya is more rebellious. The two are inseparable. They both suspect Thomas is either a spy or something shady as he never seems to have a proper job and is always away. Unfortunately, Merina finds her dad in his car with a gunshot wound (don’t worry we get to see the shootout that ultimately takes Pare’s Delon out) and with the help of Freya they bury him.

From here the movie takes a turn of how I imagine a sequel to Leon would have been. With Merina’s mum needing medication and bills to pay, Merina takes up where her dad left off and starts killing people on the hit list. While she starts off quite ropey she eventually becomes quite good at the craft and we get to watch some fun blood soaked assassinations.

Bill Oberst Jr plays the villainous and quite psychotic Poe. A henchman and hitman who also puts out contracts on people. He is cold and ruthless. He talks to himself and induces pain upon himself for things he has done wrong. His character reminded me of what the Joker would have been like in non-clown form and his partner looks like Harley Quinn. During the finale she is shooting a gun in some weird exorcist-like pose that is quite creepy!

Verdict

The story is good and Michael Pare is on point as always. Sanae Loutsis who plays Marina is breaking out in the industry, this role gives her a taste of all genres as her character goes through the ringer. Oberst Jr is on top form as the villain you can’t meet his grisly end while Amy DiLorenzo portrays the hardships of Merina’s mum on point making her hateful but likeable come the end of the movie when we fully understand the character. Isis Eggleton is a contributing factor to the story as Freya and she is essentially the rebellious darker side to Merina, until Merina picks up her dad’s guns. Freya doesn’t bat an eyelid and supports her friend throughout.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Easter Egg

Producer Jeff Miller playfully gets his previous movie, Bring Him Back Dead featured in this movie through poster form in a cinema scene.
