The Equalizer 2 (2018)

The Equalizer 2 (2018)

Directed By: Antoine Fuqua

Starring: Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Ashton Sanders, Melissa Leo, Bill Pullman.

Synopsis: Robert McCall’s best friend, Susan Plummer, is murdered while investigating a murder-suicide crime. As a former spy, he leverages his skills and resources to find the culprit.

Review: Denzel and Antoine reunite for The Equalizer 2!! This time around the movie opens with Robert McCall doing what he does best. An abuse husband has taken his daughter and his attempting too flee too Turkey. Naturally the man isn’t alone and has some goons who become canon fodder for McCall to destroy in a very precise and calculative manor.

The main plot centers on McCall’s best friend Susan Plummer. She is brutally murdered while investigating a case. It’s not hard to figure out who are the villains are in this movie, but the way McCall plays out his findings is the part that makes the movie more badass. It ups the level of badassery by a thousand when McCall casually tells the bad guys face to face he will kill them all. Then gets a lift too the bus station with the main bad guys wife and kids.

There is a welcomed sub plot involving McCall trying too help steer a young kid named Miles, from joining a local street gang. Also McCall showing his soft side, looking after an elderly man and listening to his stories etc. That arc takes a nice turn and doesn’t once become too much or over bearing.

The Action this time around is full throttle and Robert McCall is still as badass as ever. A standout scene is when Robert confronts a group of little rich kid rapists who think they can buy everything. Robert doesn’t hold back and breaks bones ams twists limbs quicker than Seagal. The finale was a riot. McCall takes the bad guys on in a Hurricane. Each of them gets their own unique wince inducing death.

The second entry in the franchise is very welcome and a must see for action fans. I love the character Denzel plays and he has cemented a memorable hero for the ages. I really hope for a third outing.
