Review: Mike Banning returns! I love this franchise, every movie seems to get better as the franchise goes along. This time around Gerard Butler’s character Mike Banning is framed for an attempted assassination of the president.
The third entry of the franchise differs slightly to the first two entries. We see our indestructible hero Mike Banning is actually human, he suffers an addiction to pain relief tablets, is suffering migraines and has insomnia. Mike being our hero and tough guy has typically kept all this to himself and hasn’t told anyone including his wife.
The main villain isn’t really hard to guess and you can see who is who from the very beginning. Though predictable regarding the bad guys, it never takes away from the movie at all.
The action set pieces are still on a high octane level, I think like most action fans a true highlight of the movie was the forest action sequence. The final battle was pretty solid, a very obvious use of CGI was also present. But it was forgivable.
Another welcome addition to the cast was Nick Nolte who plays Mike’s estranged father. His character stole the scenes he was in and you can see that back in his day he would have been like Mike. Quite the force to be reckoned with.
With a solid story and a more personal look into Mike’s mind the movie is a strong contender for a being a favourite so far of the trilogy. The action set pieces are also quite cool and the forest scene was memorable. While I’m not sure what the plans are entirely. I would love too see amother adventure of Mike Banning.
