The Debt Collector 2 aka Payback (2020) Review

Synopsis: After skirting death, debt collectors French (Scott Adkins, Avengement, Doctor Strange) and Sue (Louis Mandylor, Rambo: Last Blood, My Big Fat Greek Wedding) get back to doing what they do best – cracking skulls and breaking bones – as they chase down the various lowlifes who owe money to their boss, Tommy (Vladimir Kulich, The Equalizer, Vikings).
They’re summoned to Las Vegas to collect from a dirty casino owner, who happens to be a vicious ex-lover of Sue’s. Meanwhile, a notorious drug kingpin is on the warpath to kill French and Sue to avenge his brother’s death. Facing danger from all angles, the pair has no other choice but to fight their way out of an explosively dangerous situation
Review: After the events of the first movie French and Sue return. This movie is bigger than the first in terms of action and stunts and is one of my fave movies I have seen in a while.
French and Sue are two characters I never get bored of seeing the banter is on fire and the chemistry Scott and Louis bring to the screen is magic. The movie has some very memorable action sequences, one that sticks out is where French and Sue enter a Boxing gym. That’s ’nuff said there, as I don’t want to spoil anything. But it’s a fun sequence. Also theres one thing included that makes an action movie that bit more fun… A bar fight. Yeehaw!!
The script, just like the first movie, balances the action and comedy to perfection, I watched the first and this entry back to back. I found myself tuned out of reality for 3 hours and it was one hell of a ride. Another thing I loved about the movie was the characters of French and Sue had reversed, French was down with dishing out a beating and Sue was more reserved Rhos time around… For a while anyway! Scott and Louis have a solid franchise in their hands and I hope we see more of these characters in the future.
What I love about the Debt Collector movies, is that they always have that bit at the end you don’t see coming. Also what makes these movies fun, is the fact French and Sue are not complete machines, while being tough as nails, sometimes they do take a little bit of a hammering.
Final verdict would ultimately be, one hell of ride. Filled with banter and beatings, Payback offers a great blend of action and laughs with Scott and Louis returning on top form! French and Sue are the new Dynamic Duo!
